Larry is a Geropsychologist with a PhD from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida and a Professor Emeritus, from Stanford University’s School of Medicine. In a career that spans over 40 years, he has specialized in how to enhance mental health and well-being in older adults. Larry has held numerous professional positions both clinically and in academia. Among multiple positions, he was the Co-Editor in Chief for the Clinical Gerontologist, the Editor for the Behavioral and Social Sciences Section in the Journal of Gerontology, a consultant for the Federal Food and Drug Administration and a member of the NIMH Clinical Research Projects Review Committee.

Larry has vast academic and teaching experience gained at the University of Southern California, Stanford University School of Medicine, and VA Medical Center in Palo Alto. Larry has directed gerontology research program development at the Menlo Park division of the Palo Alto Veterans Medical Center and also Co-Directed the Older Adult and Family Research and Resource Center which was supported by Stanford, the VA, and by research and training grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Aging. He has recently been awarded the M. Powell Lawton Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Applied Geropsychology by the American Psychological Association. Larry has additional clinical expertise and interest in managing bipolar disorders. He has authored more than 200 articles published in peer reviewed journals and written, edited and co-edited books relevant to the field. He speaks from personal experience as well as he maintains brain health through a variety of physical and mental activities that keeps him in the game!
